Summary

Our client is a well-established, family owned food manufacturer of aseptically packaged  fruit and dairy products sold to a wide array of food manufacturers. Due to continued growth, they are seeking to add a PURCHASING MANAGER with experience purchasing ingredients and packaging materials to their team based in Farmingdale, NY. The Purchasing Manager will be responsible for purchasing of all ingredients, raw materials, packaging supplies and all products used in the manufacturing process.  The yearly spend is approximately $30M -40M.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement purchasing strategies aligned with production needs and company goals.
• Sourcing & Vendor Management: Research, evaluate, and select prospective suppliers based on quality, reliability, pricing, and fulfillment speeds. Build and maintain strong vendor relationships.
• Negotiate contracts, pricing, and terms with vendors to ensure cost savings and quality standards.
• Maintain strong vendor relationships and evaluate supplier performance.
• Order all necessary materials needed for production. Enforce stringent quality control on incoming goods. Ensure all materials and facility supplies meet food safety standards and regulatory requirements (e.g., HACCP, FDA, USDA)
• Oversee purchase orders, deliveries, and invoice reconciliation.
• Follow up to confirm on time delivery of materials to ensure uninterrupted production flow.
• Mitigate supply chain risks and develop contingency sourcing plans.
• Budget & Inventory Control: Track purchasing expenses against allocated budgets and maintain optimal inventory levels to avoid shortages or excess waste. Monitor inventory turnover. Oversee regular inventory counts, reconciliation, and material rotation to minimize waste
• Source new materials as required for Research and Development.
• Develop fruit pack required needs based on forecasts of existing volume quantities for current products.
• Find and build relationships with new growers/brokers from all regions to mitigate risk of crop failure in one region to the next.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, Business Administration, Food Science or related field.
• Must have 10 + years of Purchasing or Procurement experience, in Food Manufacturing
• Must have experience purchasing ingredients, fruits, packaging materials etc
• Must have strong knowledge of Food Safety Standards and Regulatory requirements.
• Must have proven negotiation and vendor management skills.
• Should have prior experience with ERP/MRP systems.
• Must have excellent analytical, organizational and communication skills.
• Must know how to work with Excel/Spreadsheets
